Dr Anand Khakhar is a pioneer in liver transplant surgeries. Was the first one to set up liver transplant program in India in 2007. He has done more than 1500 transplants in last two decades. He has initiated the same in Chennai and took it forward to Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Ahmedabad. He has already performed more than 250 liver transplant at Zydus Hospital itself. He also had a unique opportunity to address the recruiting ASTS fellowship trained surgeons of Indian origin and by training fellows in their programs. He similarly developed complementary department colleagues in Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Anesthesia and Critical care within the group and set up programs on similar design. He also accomplished programs that offered ‘comprehensive transplant services’ including medical management of liver failure, living donor and cadaver donor liver transplantation and transplantation for pediatrics and adults. He also started the first simultaneous Pancreas & Kidney transplant (SPK) program in 2013 and extended to Pancreas Transplant Alone (PTA) for select indications. His expertise includes Liver diseases like fatty liver, Cirrhosis, Liver Cancer, Liver Transplant or any other kind of liver disorders.
